Suns claim second Volleyball P.E.I. title of year

PROFIT’S CORNER – The Summerside Suns Team One went undefeated to capture the Tier 1 Division of the recent Volleyball P.E.I. 14-under girls tournament here at M.E. Callaghan Junior High School.

The Suns defeated Kensington Team One 19-15 in the championship match.

The Volleyball P.E.I. 14-Under Girls League consists of two tiers playing a round-robin tournament, followed by a playoff round. The Tier 1 Division displays an impressive amount of talent at the intermediate level.

The Cornwall Red Mudd took third place after winning the bronze-medal match 22-14 against the Suns Team Two. The other four teams played off in a consolation round, with the Colonels defeating West Prince 20-16, and the Birchwood Cobras defeating KISH Team Two (score unavailable).

The next tournament will take place at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown on Tuesday, April 22. Play begins at 5:15 p.m.

Tier 2

In the Tier 2 Division, the Colonels Team One was able to claim their first 2014 title of the seven-tournament season.  

After finishing first following the round robin, Colonels received a bye to the final and defeated the Cornwall Red Mudd 19-10.  

Following a loss in the semifinals, the West Prince Islanders were able to finish off with a victory, closing the tournament off with a third-place finish.

The Summerside Suns finished in fourth place, followed by the Colonels Team Two.  The teams continue to improve each week, displaying lengthy, exciting rallies.  

The next Tier 2 tournament will also take place at Colonel Gray High School on Tuesday, starting at 5:15 p.m.
