CHARLOTTETOWN – The Islanders Volleyball Club is the first team to solve the Charlottetown Aces in the Volleyball P.E.I. 16-under/18-under spring tournaments.
After two weeks of going undefeated, the Aces dropped a close final in this week’s tournament to the Islanders 20-18 at Colonel Gray High School.
The championship match was a back-and-forth battle, with neither team leading by more than three points at a time. The fans were treated to great volleyball, with some big digs and attack-line kills.
In the third-place match, the Hampshire Heat defeated the Montague Magic 29-15.
The fifth team taking part in the tournament was Hodge Podge – three Slammers, two Heat and one Islander.
Likes what league offers
Aces head coach and New Brunswick native Max Arsenault is enjoying the spring league. In New Brunswick, the school season is played in the spring and club volleyball is held in the fall.
"This league gives players a chance to play as most coaches keep everyone who tries out,” said Arsenault. “Grade 9 guys get a chance to see what the level will be like in the fall, and get to know their future teammates.
“For me, this is a great chance to work with different players as my team is made up of Rural and Gray players.”
Play will continue at Three Oakes on Wednesday, with games starting at 5:30 . The league will wrap up with the provincial championship at Holland College on May 3.
