PROFIT’S CORNER – The Summerside Slammers defeated the Stonepark Tigers 24-16 to win the first Volleyball P.E.I. 14-under boys tournament.

After two weeks of cancellations due to storms, the five clubs finally met at M.E. Callaghan Intermediate School on Monday to begin the six-tournament season.

“It was great to finally get things started,” said Dale MacDougall, coach of the Slammers.

The five teams played a round robin in timed games lasting 12 minutes. After round-robin play, Queen Charlotte finished first with a perfect 4-0 (won-lost) record. Three teams finished with a 2-2 mark.

After using the tiebreaking procedure, the Tigers were second, with the Slammers and Red Mudd following. The West Prince Islanders were fifth at 0-4.
