Of The Dominion P.E.I. Provincial Club Curling Ch’ships
SUMMERSIDE -- The Leo Stewart rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club and the Tammi Cudmore rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex breezed through the round robin portion of The Dominion P.E.I. Provincial Club Curling Championship with 5-0 records, earning their teams a bye into Sunday’s 2 p.m. championship final at the Silver Fox.
Stewart won his final two round robin games on Saturday, 8-6 over Phillip McInnis from the Charlottetown Curling Complex and 5-3 over Cornwall’s Mark MacDonald to lock up first place, while Cudmore registered wins of 9-4 over Kim Glydon and her Cornwall rink in the morning draw and then handed the previously unbeaten Iva Griffin rink from the Western Community Curling Club a 12-3 setback in the afternoon draw.
Kim Aylward finished third in the women’s round-robin with a 3-2 record to earn a semi-final berth against Griffin Sunday at 9 a.m. Aylward picked up two wins on Saturday, 7-5 over Crapaud’s Vanessa Hamming and 9-0 over Cornwall’s Kim Glydon, to lock up the final women’s play-off position. Gail Greene, Montague, finished fourth at 2-3 followed by Glydon at 1-4 and Hamming at 0-5.
The final men’s draw featured two games between teams with 2-2 records. The winners would advance to the men’s semi-final and the losers would go home. Defending champion Alan Inman stamped his passport to the semi with a 6-5 victory over Montague’s Matthew MacDonald and Charlottetown’s Phillip McInnis stole singles in the final two ends to dispatch Western’s Eric McCarthy rink. McCarthy and Matthew MacDonald both finished with 2-3 records and Cornwall’s Mark MacDonald finished at 0-5.
Inman and McInnis will meet at 9 a.m.
The men’s and women’s semi-final victors will advance to the 2 .m. championship final against Stewart and Cudmore.
