ALBERTON -- The 1 p.m. game in Alberton to open the Atlantic Midget AAA Hockey Championship has been postponed and organizers are still deliberating on whether a 4 p.m. contest between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia can go ahead.
Rob Newson, executive director of Hockey P.E.I. and event coordinator for the Midget AAA tournament, said only a few members of the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia teams made it to P.E.I. and the host hotel, the Rod Mill River Resort, before Wednesday’s blizzard set in. Other members of those teams are en route today, he said.
The Newfoundland team arrived early afternoon Wednesday and is ready to play.
Should the 4 p.m. contest have to be postponed, Newson said organizers remain hopeful that the game between Team P.E.I., the Mid-Isle Matrix, and the host team, P.E.I. champions Western Regals can still go ahead this evening in Alberton, and possibly moved up to 7 p.m. He said there is also a possibility that a game can be played tonight in Tignish to help get things back on schedule.
