Capture Kariya Bernard Memorial Trophy

LENNOX ISLAND – The Lennox Island Bruins capped a remarkable season in the Lennox Island Ball Hockey League recently.

The Lennox Island Bruins recently won the regular-season and playoff championships in the Lennox Island Ball Hockey League.

After winning the regular-season title, the Bruins defeated the Lennox Island Red Wings 4-2 in the best-of-seven final to claim the coveted Kariya Bernard Memorial Trophy as playoff champions.

The Lennox Island Ball Hockey League has been operating for five seasons.

Dom DiJulio, who was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the playoffs, led the Bruins with 15 goals and four assists in the six-game series against the Red Wings.

In the best-of-five semifinals, the Bruins swept the Lennox Island Blackhawks, and the Red Wings eliminated the Lennox Island Maple Leafs in three straight games.



The league announced its award winners for the 2013-14 season following the final series.

Jerry Lewis of the Bruins was selected as the regular-season MVP. His teammate, Drew Bernard, was named the top defenceman, and the Leafs’ Brandon Bernard was selected as the most sportsmanlike player.

Mike Day of the Hawks led the league in points while Steve Bernard Jr. of the Bruins scored the most goals.

Four Red Wings took home six awards – Darcy Burt, rookie of the year; John Arsenault, top goaltender and most wins; Drake MacDonald, top goaltending average, and Junior Alphonse, most assists and top play-maker.

The MVPs of each team were Burt (Red Wings), Day (Hawks), Lewis (Bruins) and Kyle Sark (Leafs).

First Team

Goal – John Arsenault, Red Wings.

Defence – Drew Bernard, Bruins.

Forwards – Mike Day, Blackhawks; Dom DiJulio, Bruins; Jerry Lewis, Bruins.

Youth forward – Ike Sark, Bruins.

Second Team

Goal – Drake MacDonald, Bruins.

Defence – Cory Sark, Maple Leafs.

Forwards – Steve Bernard Jr., Bruins; Kyle Sark, Maple Leafs; Darcy Burt, Red Wings.

Youth forward – Junior Augustine, Bruins.
