SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Storm has earned a berth in the P.E.I. Under-12 Ringette League semifinals.

The Storm advanced by eliminating Mike's Maniacs from Charlottetown 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

The Storm clinched the series with a 9-6 win at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown on Monday night. Summerside opened the scoring with a 10-5 victory at Credit Union Place in Summerside last week.

Game 2

In Game 2,the Maniacs jumped out to early leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the Storm capitalized on a few chances just before halftime to go into the break leading 4-3.

Then midway through the second half, Alexis Schurman forced a key turnover and made a great pass that started a rally in which the Storm scored three goals in a three-minute span to lead 8-4.

The Maniacs, with their season on the line, applied lots of pressure and managed to score two more goals to make it 8-6 with just over two minutes left to play.

Storm goaltender Janessa Veniot made a number of great saves to hold off the final surge from the Maniacs, before the team scored a late insurance goal.

The league’s semifinals are scheduled to begin after March Break.
