Big scores at U16 curling ch’ships

ALBERTON -- Alex MacFadyen, the defending boys champion at the O’Connor Glass Curl P.E.I. Provincial Under 16 curling championships put an exclamation point on his second lopsided win here at Western Community Curling Club Friday afternoon. MacFadyen, who opened defense of his 2013 title with a 10-0 win Thursday night, was a 16-0 winner over Montague’s Owen Collier Friday afternoon. He ended the game early with a six-ender in the fifth end.

There were also two lopsided scored in the girls games during the afternoon draw as Lauren Lenentine, the defending girls champion from Cornwall and Kaleigh MacKay’s Crapaud/Charlottetown team both improved to 2-0 and will square off in the A event qualifier in Saturday’s 9 a.m. draw with the winner advancing directly to the Page play-off round. Lenentine won 12-3 over Cornwall’s Katie Worth in six ends and MacKay defeated Lauren Moerike 9-1 in six ends.

Two girls games and one boys game are set for tonight’s 7 p.m. draw.
