Four games scheduled a day for rest of week
CHARLOTTETOWN – It’s the biggest week of the year for high school basketball on Prince Edward Island.
The P.E.I. School Athletic Association senior playoffs will get underway with four quarter-final games at three different locations on Tuesday. Four more games are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, leading up to the AA and AAA medal games early next week.
Two of Tuesday’s games will be played at Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside. The Three Oaks AAA boys, who finished the regular season in fourth place, will host the fifth-place Bluefield Bobcats at 5 p.m., and the AA Axemen will entertain the Montague Vikings in the four-five game as well at 7 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m., the fifth-seeded Kensington Torchettes will visit the loser of Monday’s game between Rural Team One and Bluefield. The winner of that game will granted the No. 3 seed.
The Three Oaks AA girls, who completed the regular season in fifth place, make the long journey to Souris to take on the No. 4 Spartans at 6 p.m.
The A semifinals, which will be played at Bluefield High School in Hampshire, highlight Wednesday’s schedule.
The top-seeded Bluefield girls will face the winner of Monday night’s quarter-final between Francois Buote and Morell at 2 p.m.
At 4 p.m., third-seeded Colonel Gray meets No. 2 Morell in the first boys’ game, and the girls return to the court as the second-seeded Kinkora Blazers clash with the No. 3 seed, Charlottetown Rural Raiders, at 6 p.m.
The final game of the day has the No. 1 seed Kinkora boys facing the fourth-seeded Bluefield Bobcats at 8 p.m.
The A medal games will be played at Bluefield on Saturday, with game times at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Holland College will be the site of the AAA semifinals on Thursday.
The top-seeded Charlottetown Rural boys will kick off the day’s four-game schedule against the winner of Tuesday’s Three Oaks-Bluefield quarter-final game at 2 p.m.
The Three Oaks Axewomen, who go into the post-season seeded No. 2, will meet the winner of Monday night’s game between Rural and Bluefield that determined the No. 3 seed. That contest will start at 4 p.m.
At 6 p.m., the third-seeded Westisle boys will meet the No. 2-seeded Colonel Gray Colonels. That game will be followed by the first-place Colonel Gray Colonels taking on the winner of Tuesday night’s quarter-final game at 8 p.m.
The AAA medal games are scheduled for Holland College on Tuesday. Game times are 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m.
Friday’s schedule will feature the AA semifinals, also at Holland College.
The girls will take to the court first as No. 3 Montague and No. 2 Colonel Gray get things started at 2 p.m.
The first boys’ game of the day will start at 4 p.m., and will feature the top-seeded Kensington Torchmen taking on the winner of Tuesday’s quarter-final game between Three Oaks and Montague.
At 6 p.m., the girls’ No. 1 seed, Westisle, meets the winner of Tuesday’s quarter-final match between Three Oaks and Souris.
The Charlottetown Rural boys, who are seeded third, and the second-seeded Souris Spartans will close out the day’s schedule at 8 p.m.
The AA medal games are scheduled for Monday, and will also be played at Holland College. Game times are 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m.
