CHARLOTTETOWN – Three members of the Holland College Hurricanes received Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) volleyball awards over the weekend.

Brandon Boyce of O’Leary was selected as the libero of the year while veterans Mike Harris of Summerside and Jeremy MacKinnon of Brackley Beach were voted to the All-Conference team that featured the top six players from the four ACAA men’s teams.

It was the first time a Hurricane received the coveted libero of the year award.

The Hurricanes went into last weekend’s ACAA championships ranked third at 4-8 (won-lost).

The Hurricanes defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves in three straight sets on Saturday to advance to the championship match against the top-seeded St. Thomas Tommies.

The Tommies took the first two sets, but the Hurricanes put up a good battle in the third set, only to fall 25-21.

It was the second time in three years the Hurricanes have finished as silver-medallists.
