The Island Storm placed centre Nick Evans on the injured reserve list Monday and signed former Saint John Mill Rat centre Casey Love.
Evans, who rejoined the team on Feb. 10, broke a bone in his foot during a Saturday night’s game at Eastlink Centre. It is the same foot Evans injured earlier this season when playing with the Windsor Express.
“It was unfortunate Nick re-injured his foot. We were looking forward to have him back in a Storm uniform,” said Storm head coach Joe Salerno. “We wish him a speedy recovery and the best of luck in the future.”
Love was released by the Mill Rats after playing 26 games for the team this season. Love returned to his home in Chicago to deal with a family issue.
The six-foot-nine centre averaged close to 10 points and more than four rebounds per game with Saint John.
“Casey is a great signing for us. He has been extremely consistent for the Mill Rats this season, and will add another scoring option for us in the paint,” Salerno said. “His familiarity with the Atlantic Division will also be a big plus.
“He has good size, he is physical, can knock down the 15 footer with consistency and posses a high basketball IQ. We are thrilled to welcome him to the organization.”
Love will not be in the lineup today when the Storm host the Mill Rats at 2 p.m. but is expected to join the team for their next game Saturday in London, Ont.
