Dewar, Hope share mixed curling lead

O’LEARY -- Two teams are tied for the lead with 3-1 records after four draws in the Curl P.E.I. Provincial Mixed Curling Championship being played at the Maple Leaf Curling Club here. Bill Hope’s Cornwall/Silver Fox rink opened play Friday with a loss but has since peeled off three straight victories to share the lead with Tammy Dewar and her Montague, Maple Leaf and Charlottetown rink. Dewar won her first three games before having her winning streak snapped by Charlottetown’s Jamie Newson, 7-4, in the Saturday afternoon draw. Also in the afternoon draw, Mark MacDonald moved to 2-1 with a 6-1 win over Montague’s Larry Richards, and Hope handed Clair Sweet from the host rink his fourth loss, 8-2..

MacDonald, Newson and Montague’s George Koke all head into the evening draw today with 2-1 records. Richards, who is 0-3 in the standings, faces Dewar in the 7 p.m. draw while Hope meets Newson and Koke takes on MacDonald.

In the Saturday morning draw, Newson defeated Sweet 5-3, Dewar beat Koke 6-4 and Hope won 8-1 over Richards.
