The 13-year-old skater from the Charlottetown Skating Club was in third place after a strong short program, but with a long program that featured two double lutzes, including one in combination with a double toe loop and two double flips, she was able to win the free skate and overtake the leaders to capture the gold with a total score of 59.93.

Clubmate Katie Halliday was competing for the first time in novice women’s, and had a clean short program to give her the lead going into the long program.

The 14-year-old performed well, completing a double lutz, double-toe combination as well as two other double-double combinations to finish just over half a point behind the winner, Rachelle Siteman of St. Margaret’s Bay. Halliday had a combined score of 73.77

Skaters from across the Maritimes participated in the event, with over 400 entries during the three-day event.
