O’LEARY -- Play in the Curl P.E.I. 2014 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship gets underway at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary Friday at 2:30 p.m.
There will be a new champion declared from the seven teams entered as the defending champion Rod MacDonald rink is not returning.
Teams play a single round-robin format after which the second and third place teams will play in a semi-final, with the winner going on to play the first-place round-robin team in the championship final. All games move to eight ends this year.
The P.E.I. champions will represent the province at the Canadian Mixed in North Bay, Ontario in November.

Richards has the bye in the opening bye while Newson has the bye in the 7 p.m. draw.
The matchups for the 2:30 p.m. draw are Dewar vs Hope, Sweet vs Koke and MacDonald playing Newson. At 7 p.m. it will be Hope vs MacDonald, Dewar vs Sweet and Koke vs Richards.
There are draws Saturday at 10 a.m., 2:30 and 7 p.m., and the final round robin draws go Sunday at 10 and 2:30 p.m. with either a tie-breaker or the semi-final draw at 7 p.m.
Depending on the standings, the final is scheduled for either 10, 2:30 or 7 p.m. on Monday.
