Balanced scoring helps Island Storm knock off division leaders

The Island Storm used a big second quarter to win their fourth straight game Friday in National Basketball League of Canada action.

The Storm had seven players score in double digits in a 117-111 victory over the host Saint John Mill Rats.

Saint John led 27-19 after the first quarter but the Storm responded by outscoring the Mill Rats 37-17 in the second to take a 56-44 lead to the half. They expanded the lead to 87-66 in the third and despite being outscored by 15 in the fourth quarter won the contest to improve to 15-13. The Mill Rats are 17-11.

Ed Jones led the way with 22 points while Antonio Ballard had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Antwi Atuahene added 16, Nike Okorie 14, Shawn Vanzant 13, Dwayne Smith 12 and Jeremy Williams 11. Atuahene also chipped in with seven boards and five dimes.

Anthony Anderson, the NBL's leading scorer, had 40 points and nine rebounds to lead the Mill Rats.

The Storm hosts the Ottawa SkyHawks Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be seniors night with all seniors 60 and older receiving a ticket compliments of the Holland College Culinary Institute of Canada.
