Mill Rats pull out last-second victory over Storm

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Mill Rats scored with .04 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to edge the Island Storm 106-104 on Thursday night.

Jermaine Blackburn scored the winning basket on an offensive rebound off a missed three-point shot by Anthony Anderson, who poured in a game-high 37 points to lead the Mill Rats in the National Basketball League (NBL) of Canada game.

Ed Jones, who finished with 14 points, just missed from in close at the buzzer after the Storm called a timeout.

The win improved Saint John’s record to 15-9 (won-lost) while the Storm, losers of five straight games, dropped to 11-13.

Antonio Ballard, with 27 points, as the top scorer for the Storm. Steve Tchiengang had 20 points and 12 rebounds while Nick Okorie chipped in 17 points.

The teams have little time to rest as they will close out the home-and-home series at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Friday at 7 p.m.
