CHARLOTTETOWN – Basketball players Katiesha Brissett and Orlando Palmer have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Jan. 12.
Brissett helped the Hurricanes’ women’s basketball team go 2-0 (won-lost) in their games with the UKC Blue Devils. Saturday, she scored 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds in while shooting 6-for-9 from the field in just over 21 total minutes.
Sunday, Brissett scored eight points and had eight rebounds.
Brissett, from Pickering, Ont., is a sport and leisure management student.
With the two wins the Hurricanes improved to 8-1 this season, good enough for second place in the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) standings. Holland College is ranked No. 9 in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national women’s rankings.
Palmer, a first year sport and leisure management student from Brampton, Ont., scored 25 points on Saturday, and went 10-for-13 from the field in just under 25 minutes of play. Sunday, he added eight more points in just under 17 minutes of playing time to help the Hurricanes defeat the UKC Blue Devils on back-to-back days.
The men’s basketball Hurricanes improved to 7-2, and remain in second place in the ACAA. They are also ranked ninth in the CCAA national men’s rankings.
Both Holland College teams hit the road for the next seven games.
