Summerside’s Heather Moyse is going back to the Olympics.

She was part of the Canadian bobsleigh team announced this morning in Montreal for Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Moyse is expected to arrive at the Charlottetown Airport at 4:41 p.m. today.

Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart was pleased to hear the news.

"On behalf of the city, the council and all of the citizens we say congratulations,” he told The Guardian. “She is a great person, a great athlete and a great ambassador.

“We’re just absolutely delighted.”

Brakeman Moyse and pilot Kaillie Humphries, the reigning Olympic gold medallists, will wear the Maple Leaf at the Sanki Sliding Centre in February. The team has been very good on the World Cup tour this fall, already with three medals, (two gold, one silver), in the three races they have competed in.

“She is the best in the world in her sport," Stewart said. "She has proven that four years ago and it’s great to see her going back in ’14.”

Also returning are three of the four men’s Olympic bronze medallists from Vancouver 2010 – Lyndon Rush, Dave Bissett and Lascelles Brown.

Canada will also send Canada Two pilot Jenny Ciochetti, (Edmonton) and Chelsea Valois, (Zenon Park, Sask.) to compete in the women’s event.

The men’s side is flush with Olympic experience. In addition to the 2010 medallists, brakemen Jesse Lumsden, (Burlington, Ont.) and Neville Wright, (Edmonton) are back. Piloting in addition to Rush will be Chris Spring (Calgary) who competed at Vancouver 2010 for his native Australia and Justin Kripps (Summerland, B.C.) who was a brakeman at Vancouver 2010 before learning to drive a sled.

Edmonton’s Bryan Barnett, a newcomer to bobsleigh from the world of athletics, competed at Beijing 2008 in the 200m.

Olympic rookies headed to Sochi are Cody Sorensen, (Ottawa), Ben Coakwell, (Saskatoon, Sask.), James McNaughton, (Newmarket, Ont.), Tim Randall, (Toronto), and Graeme Rinholm (Medicine Hat, Alta.). Additional names could be added before the Games begin.

Why does his royal roundness have to put his snout into anything that happens in Summerside? Too bad we could not get him to talk about the money wasted in this city and CANNOT WAIT TILL NEXT NOVEMBER!
