KISH, Gray win tournament openers

SUMMERSIDE – The Kensington Torchettes and Colonel Gray No. Two won the opening games of the Merry Kensington Intermediate-Senior High (KISH)-Montague Regional High School (MRHS) Classic on Wednesday night.

The Torchettes defeated Three Oaks Team Two 54-30 while Gray downed Souris 61-43.

Tournament action resumes at KISH and MRHS on Friday, with the placement and championship games at Holland College in Charlottetown on Saturday. The Westisle Wolverines and co-host Montague round out the six-team field.

Kensington 54 Three Oaks 30

At Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside, Emma MacLean scored 12 points to lead the Torchettes. Kelsey MacLean (11) and Kelsey Haslam (10) also scored in double digits.

For Three Oaks, Rebecca Parnham (10), Millee MacKay (6) and Bethany DesRoches (4) were the top scorers.

Kensington led 16-11 at halftime.

Colonel Gray 61 Souris 43

Julie Starck poured in a game-high 24 points to lead Gray, which also received a 16-point effort from Danielle Younker.

Julia MacAulay (22), Meagan Stewart (16) and Miranda Veld (10) were the top scorers for Souris.

Gray was in front 26-21 at the half.

5:30 p.m. – Three Oaks vs. Westisle.

At Montague Regional High:

Saturday, Dec. 14

At Holland College:

4:30 p.m. – Third-place team in East Division vs. third-place team in West Division.

6:15 p.m. – Second-place team in East Division vs. second-place team in West Division.

8 p.m. – First-place team in East Division vs. first-place team in West Division.
