CHARLOTTETOWN – Volleyball player Courtney Pryce and basketball player Chase Bowden have been chosen as the Holland College Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Dec. 1.
Pryce, a first-year middle player from Cobourg, Ont., had four kills and 10 digs during Saturday’s match, and then recorded 12 kills, four service aces and four digs in Sunday’s action. Both games were played against the St. Thomas Tommies.
Pryce is a first-year student in the pastry arts program.
The Hurricanes won their first sets of the season this weekend, losing to the Tommies 3-2 on Saturday while dropping Sunday’s match 3-1. The Hurricanes resume their Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season on Jan. 12, when they host the Université Sainte-Anne Dragons.
Bowden, a second-year player with the Hurricanes from New Glasgow, N.S., helped the Hurricanes defeat the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday.
Bowden returned from injury, scoring 29 points and adding nine rebounds. He was also 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in the game. The Hurricanes won the game 86-74.
The men’s basketball team enters the Christmas break with a 5-2 (won-lost) record, good enough for second place in the ACAA standings. The Hurricanes also sit No. 8 in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s rankings.
Holland College will return to the court on Jan. 11 against the UKC Blue Devils.
