CHARLOTTETOWN – The Island Storm of the National Basketball League of Canada has signed Toronto native Dwayne Smith to a contract, pending FIBA clearance.
The six-foot-six and 225-pound forward played over 120 games at George Washington University. He started 38 of those games, shooting 42.4 per cent from the floor and 32.3 per cent from beyond the arc.
“Dwayne is a real blue-collar basketball player,” said Storm head coach Joe Salerno. “He’s a hustle guy who works extremely hard to get results on the court.
“He’s got great size and is extremely versatile – we will look for Dwayne to contribute in multiple areas for our team.”
Smith is the third Canadian to join the Storm, including Ashton Graham of Toronto and P.E.I.’s Doug McKinney.
