CHARLOTTETOWN – Golfer Tariqah Walikraam and soccer player Evan Forrester have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes’ athletes of the week for the week ending Oct. 20.
Walikraam, a native of Bermuda, competed at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) national golf championships in Quebec City last week. Walikraam went on to fire rounds of 79, 82 and 84 to finish in sixth place.
The event features the top individuals and teams from the CCAA. Walikraam was also the top finisher in the event from the ACAA.
Walikraam was given All-Canadian honours by the CCAA at their player dinner on Tuesday night. She was three-for-three in ACAA tournaments this year, winning at Mactaquac, Northumberland Links as well as the ACAA championships at The Links of Crowbush Cove.
Walikraam is a second-year golf club management student.
Forrester, who is from Cardigan, played a key role in the Hurricanes’ two road wins this weekend over St. Thomas University and UNB Saint John.
Saturday, Forrester scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Tommies while he added another in the Hurricanes’ 3-1 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday.
The victories allowed the Hurricanes to advance to the ACAA championships in Cornwall this weekend. Holland College finished in second place at 6-1-5 (won-lost-tied) record.
The Hurricanes will take on the University of King’s College Blue Devils at the Terry Fox Complex on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. The winner will advance to the ACAA championship game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
