Steven Hardy of Summerside is returning to the Holland College Hurricanes’ men’s basketball team this season.
The men’s and women’s squads will be hosting teams from all over eastern Canada in a three-day tournament this weekend.
On the men’s side, teams from Lee Academy (Maine), UPEI, Crandall University (Moncton) and UNB Saint John will compete. Meanwhile, a P.E.I. senior team, Crandall University and UNB Saint John will join the Hurricanes in women’s action.
The Holland College women are excited with the additions they’ve made this off-season, and are eager to hit the court. They will be playing three games over the weekend – against the P.E.I. senior team on Friday at 7 p.m., versus the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday at 7 p.m., and the Crandall Chargers provide the opposition on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Holland College men’s team is coming off of an extremely successful season that included winning the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) championship and a Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national silver medal.
The Hurricanes are made up of a strong group of returning players.
“We’re looking forward to three good tests early in our season,” said Holland College men’s coach Josh Whitty. “We've had a great training camp, and are looking forward to getting out and competing.”
Friday, the men’s Hurricanes will take on the Lee Academy at 9 p.m., while on Saturday they will challenge UNB Saint John on Saturday, also at 9 p.m. The Hurricanes will finish their tournament schedule on Sunday against Crandall at 3 p.m.
All tournament games will take place at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown. An admission fee will be charged.
