CHARLOTTETOWN – Bunny Mach was able to track down race favourite Veronicavermillion and win the Saturday feature in a sparking 1:55.1 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gary Chappell engineered the winning drive for trainer Stephen Quinn and owners Don and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge. The long shot paid $31.90 to win. Veronicavermillion (Brodie MacPhee) was second, with JK Special (Walter Cheverie) third. The 5-2-3 triactor paid $702.60.
Members of the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue were trackside with the cooler presentation to the winners.
Fitelle, with owner-driver Peter Lanigan of Montague in the bike, won the Martin MacDougall Memorial Pace in Race 4. The time of the mile was 1:59.3 over Diesel Seelster and Glencove Uday.
The card featured two trot divisions. Sandhill Angel overcame Post 8 to win by open lengths in 2:03 for driver Kenny Arsenault and trainer-owner Glen Claybourne of Charlottetown. JK Queen put in a gate-to-wire performance to win the other trot class in 2:04. Walter Cheverie did the driving for owners Joe Smallwood of Stratford and Norman Clarey of Charlottetown.
