In Charlottetown on Thursday night
CHARLOTTETOWN – Greatheart Hanover is the morning-line favourite in Thursday night’s $1,850 feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First-race post time for the 12-dash card is 7 p.m.
The Stephen Quinn-trained Greatheart Hanover has his work cut out for him in Race 11, as he is shouldered with the outside Post 8 in the tough field of pacers. Jason Hughes will drive the five-year-old gelding for owner Foxyhall Racing Stable of Nova Scotia.
All of his miles are in the 1:55-to-1:57 range while tangling with the top pacers in the Maritimes.
Greatheart Hanover will have to get past some tough competition to get the victory. Sterling Seelster (Mark McKinnon) has Post 3, and is fresh off a 1:57 victory at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway, and trainer Jackie Matheson sends out classy overnight pacers Van Zant (Ron Matheson) and Artners In Crime (Brodie MacPhee) from Post 6 and 7, respectively.
Also in the field are Private Joke (Mike McGuigan), Toad River (Ken Murphy), Doll R General (Gary Chappell) and Panacotta (Mark Bradley).
Race 4 has a field of eight open trotters racing for a purse of $1,800.
Abundaspin is assigned the outer Post 8 for trainer-driver Harold Shepherd and owner Mikaela Lustic of Warren Grove. The 13-year-old trotter is looking for his fourth win in a row, with his last start a speedy 1:59 victory in Charlottetown.
He will face challenges from Who Took That (McGuigan) from Post 3 and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass) from Post 5.
Other entries include Saulsbrook Balance (Willie Murphy), Honeymoonisover (Brian Andrew), Majian Chester (James Ripley), My Daisy Duke (Corey MacPherson) and Dee Dee Pucker (Hughes).
The back-up pace lines up in Race 7 for a purse of $1,550. Every Day is the favourite from Post 2 for trainer-driver Brian Andrew and owners Bill Andrew of Calgary and Rachel Andrew of Westmount.
His top competition includes Artist List (Bradley), First Art Down (MacPhee) and Bowyer Hanover (Walter Cheverie).
Live racing continues in Charlottetown on Saturday at 6 p.m., and in Summerside on Sunday at 1 p.m. The first $3,500 leg of Island pacing championship for aged pacers will be held as part of the Summerside card.
