SHUBENACADIE, N.S. – The fifth and final round of the 2013 Atlantic Roadracing League (ARL) Atlantic superbike championship (atlanticroadracing.com) was held here at Atlantic Motorsport Park last weekend.
The participants didn’t disappoint – the racing action was as intense as what was seen all year.
Team Redline Motorsports’ rider Rob MacIsaac of Summerside entered the weekend in seventh place in the 2013 championship standings, hoping to close the gap to fifth and sixth places with some solid and consistent rides.
MacIsaac’s weekend didn’t start well as he had some bike issues, but once the team figured out the problems they were fixed in short order. Unfortunately, this took up all of Saturday’s wet practice sessions, and Team Redline wasn’t able to hit the track until it was actually race time.
In Saturday’s AM Superbike 1 race, MacIsaac had not a great start and grabbed a fifth-place start, and fell to sixth, which is where he finished.
In Saturday’s Formula 46 event, MacIsaac again carried the Team Redline Motorsports’ banner. A much better start netted MacIsaac a second-place launch off of the line.
After being passed by Saint John, N.B., rider John Russell, MacIsaac entered into a long battle for third place with Nova Scotia racers Dean Johnston and Gary McKinnon. The Team Redline rider held off all attempts at a pass by the other riders until the eighth of 10 laps, and Johnston finally stuck it up the inside of MacIsaac at the entrance of the fastest seventh turn.
The race was intense and MacIsaac set a new personal-best time of 1:15.3. The Team Redline rider, although tired, was able to hold off McKinnon and grab a fourth-place finish in what was called one of the most exciting battles of the afternoon.
Redline Motorsports rider MacIsaac got off to another good start on Sunday morning, and was third on Lap 1. After being moved back to fifth at the midway point of the 12-lap event, MacIsaac set into a solid pace and began yet another battle, this time with fellow Islander Roddy MacDonald of Charlottetown.
After numerous attempts at a pass, MacDonald settled for sixth place while MacIsaac took home a fifth-place finish to cap off what was a great rookie season.
ARL’s 2013 Atlantic Superbike Series has come to an end, and Team Redline Motorsports’ first season, under crew chief Michelle Craig, has been deemed a big success.
