In King of Clubs Senior Men’s Golf Tour
STANHOPE – Ron Garrett of Brudenell shot an even-par 72 to record the best score in the King of Clubs Senior Men’s Golf Tour event at the Stanhope Golf Course on Monday.
Garrett started with a birdie on the first hole, and then had seven pars to finish the first nine holes with a bogey. On his second nine holes, Garrett recorded seven pars and had a bogey on the treacherous par-3 13th hole. He saved his even-par round by scoring a birdie on the last hole.
Ken Fraser of Mill River, with a fine round of 76, posted the next-best score. Merlin Affleck from the host Stanhope club was third at 77.
Super Senior Division
In the Super Senior Division, Mike McCarville of Stanhope set the pace with a score of 79. Bob Smith of Brudenell and Cliff Goodwin of Andersons Creek, who both had rounds of 81, followed McCarville.
The best net score of the field was 67 shot by Stanhope golfer Frank Morrison. Claude Belley of Summerside had the next best net score of 70.
A total of 54 golfers participated.
The next event will be held at Fox Meadow Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 16. Everyone is trying to earn points at these events to qualify for the Abegweit PEIGA Match Play at the Glasgow Hills Golf Course on Oct. 5 and 6.
The top 16 in both the Senior Division and the Super Senior Division rankings will qualify for this event. Also, the top four in both King of Clubs Rankings will receive King of Clubs gift certificates at the season finale at Belvedere Golf Club on Monday, Oct. 7.
