Knights win while Chevys lose opening games
FREDERICTON – It was a day of mixed results for the P.E.I. teams here at the Baseball Canada Atlantic peewee AAA baseball championship on Thursday.
The Sherwood Knights trimmed St. John’s from Newfoundland and Labrador 10-1, and the Chevys dropped an 8-7 decision to host Fredericton.
Both P.E.I. teams play twice on Friday. The P.E.I.-champion Chevys face Conception Bay North from Newfoundland and Labrador at 1 p.m., and Nova Scotia’s Tri-County at 7 p.m.
The Knights take on Moncton from New Brunswick at 9 a.m., and Dartmouth from Nova Scotia at 4 p.m.

Fredericton counted a pair of three-run innings, including one in the bottom of the sixth to open up an 8-4 lead, in outlasting the Chevys. However, Summerside refused to go quietly, and rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning to set the stage for an interesting finish.
Colton Perry went 3-for-3, scored a run and drove in another to lead the Chevys’ offence while Ben MacDougall had three hits in four at-bats, scored twice and plated a run. Tyson McInnis (2-3, run scored, run batted in) also had a big game for the Chevys.
Five different players pitched for the Chevys.
Samuel Beaulieu went a perfect 4-for-4 to spark Fredericton’s attack.
Sherwood-Parkdale 10 St. John’s 1
Matthew MacAulay’s 3-for-3 summary at the plate, including a run scored, ignited the Knights’ offence. Chandler Laporte (2-4, two runs scored, two runs batted in), Carter Melnick (2-3, run scored, run batted in) and Connor McGregor (2-4, two runs scored, two runs batted in) also had multiple-hit performances for the Knights.
Kyle Kennedy was credited with the pitching win.
