The Chevys will face the host Fredericton entry in a 3 p.m. start, which will immediately follow the opening ceremonies.
The Chevys and Sherwood-Parkdale Knights are the two P.E.I. representatives in the eight-team tournament, which is divided into a pair of four-team pools. The Chevys defeated the Knights 14-10 in the provincial championship game in Charlottetown on Aug. 25 to earn P.E.I.’s No. 1 seed.
“I’m hoping we will get into the semifinals, and hopefully we can have the same kind of story at the end of the Atlantics as we did at the end of the provincials,” said Chevys head coach Dale MacDougall.
The Chevys have added two pick-ups – Tyson McInnis of the Cardigan Clippers and Pat Young of the Charlottetown Royals – to their 12-player roster for the Atlantic championship.
One key for the Chevys, especially with pitchers on pitch counts in a short tournament, will be pitching.
“Pitching is going to be big,” reiterated MacDougall. “You just have to manage it well.
“The two pick-ups, Tyson is a really good pitcher and Pat Young can pitch some too.
“We are pretty deep in pitching really, and that’s a blessing right there. We just want them to throw strikes and let the defence be able to make plays.”
If the pitchers can do that, MacDougall is confident in his defence.
“We have a pretty good D (defence) in the infield and outfield as well,” said MacDougall. “I’m not too worried about that.”

One difference at the Atlantics compared to the P.E.I. Peewee AAA Baseball League is that only nine players bat. All 12 players batted in league play and the provincial championships.
“We are going to go with the guys who are playing really well,” said MacDougall. “If they are having a bad game there are other people ready to jump in and take their spot.”
