The 2013 Stakes action continues on Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Summerside. The Lady Slipper Stake for the two-year-old filly pacers and the Joe O’Brien Stake for two-year-old colt pacers have accumulated 12 of the 13 races on Sunday.
The fastest two-year-old pacing filly in Atlantic Sire Stakes history is Lovineveryminute. The Western Paradise filly scorched the Charlottetown Driving Park in 1:56 1/5 Old Home Week. The Gilles Barrieau driven, Earl Watts trained freshman filly leads the morning line in one of the two $11,300 gold divisions.
Kensington conditioner Eddy Doucette, has a cracker jack filly in her own right. Elm Grove Inarush paced her own mile in 1:56 4/5, finishing second in that record mile last week. Mark Bradley will drive tomorrow.
Saulsbrook Alana (Marc Campbell) also showed up Old Home Week capturing a sire stake in 1:57 4/5.
All three fillies square off in the same division on Sunday and the record books may need to be re-written!
Elton “Dewey” Millar has the morning line favourite in the second gold filly division. Dusty Lane Dora (Corey MacPherson), who just ran out of racetrack last week, coming up a half length short in 1:57 and change.
Joe O’Brien Gold
The Joe O’Brien Memorial Stake is also divided into a pair of $9,000 divisions. The Cape Breton ship-in Dumas Walker (Myles Heffernan) comes to Summerside on a three-race win streak. I only hope it’s not déjà vu time for this colt, who was knocked down in the Callbeck here in Summerside.
Tobins Fusion (Gilles Barrieau) had his undefeated string snapped last week in Charlottetown. The Western Paradise colt had to settle for second best on a track that was rated two seconds off. If anybody can get him back on his winning ways, it’s Barrieau.
Kevin MacLean has an old broodmare that just keeps on producing solid racehorses. Karen Rebel is her name and his latest foal to the races is Rebel Seven. This colt has won his last two starts in “A” action of the Atlantic Sire Stakes. When you add Marc Campbell to the mix, it becomes lethal.
It’s rare when you find fillies out-performing colts, but that has been the trend in Atlantic Canada this season. The fillies continue to have the faster times and Oceanview Kitty’s track record is in jeopardy on Sunday afternoon. Be there!
Best Bets – Lovineveryminute (Race 8) and Blu Meadow Willie (Race 13)
Long Shot Possibilities – Cobra Rising (Race 6) and Dusty Lane Oliver (Race 10)
