ZRENJANIN, SERBIA -- It was close but Summerside’s Hannah Taylor came up short of a semi-final berth in the FILA Cadet world Wrestling Championships Friday in Zrenjanin, Serbia.
Taylor lost her quarter-final match on points, 5-1 to Anzhelika Chshelchkova of Kazahstan after making her international debut with a second round pin of a Belarus wrestler.
The world championship is a single elimination tournament. There were 18 wrestlers in Taylor’s 52 kg weight class.
“She fought really hard,” assessed Hannah’s Mom, Bonnie who watched the matches on a live video stream.
Mom suggested Hannah put up an even stronger performance in her second round loss than she did in her first round win but didn’t get the outcome she was looking for. She was looking forward to having a chat with her daughter after having relied on facebook messaging since seeing her off on Monday.
Taylor, a silver medalist at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec on August 8, and a wrestler from Fredericton will fly into Moncton around midnight Monday.
