In second elimination race
SUMMERSIDE – The second Governor’s Plate elimination will highlight a power-packed card at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Monday.
The first race post time is 7 p.m., with the Governor’s Plate elimination lining up on the final race of the 12-dash card. The $5,000 elimination has heavily-favoured Proven Lover drawing Post 1 for owner Casey Gavin of Tignish, trainer Thane Mann and driver Terry Gallant.
The Real Desire stallion was defeated last Sunday for the first time in his 2013 P.E.I. season, but it took a 1:54.4 mile to do it.
Mcapulco has drawn Post 2 for driver Gilles Barrieau, owner Pat Morris and trainer Jackie Matheson. The 2012 Governor’s Plate champion has yet to visit the winner’s circle in five attempts this season, but is reunited with his 2012 driver, and has paced his last two miles in 1:55.3 and 1:54.3 in Charlottetown.
Another threat in the race comes from Windemere Express, who is saddled with the outside Post 7. Marc Campbell will be in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owner John Thompson of Charlottetown.
The five-year-old pacer finished a bang-up second after doing all the work from the front end in 1:55.3 last week in the $4,000 Walter Dale Invitational Pace in Fredericton, N.B.
Other entries are King Of Rock (Jason Hughes), Carnivore (Gary Chappell), Nakai Hanover (Marc Whebby) and First Art Down (Walter Cheverie).
Open Mares Series
The program also features two $2,250 eliminations of the Lobster Carnival Open Mares Series, with the entries looking for a spot in the $7,500 final being held Governor’s Plate night.
The first division goes in Race 8, and has General Luckypercy (Barrieau) favoured from Post 3 for trainer Matheson and owners Jodilynn Shepherd and Jack Brown.
Other morning-line favourites in the eight-horse field are Doober Hoozzitz (Gallant) and Highland Dancer (Brodie MacPhee).
The other elimination lines up in Race 10 with Dirt Track Momma (Kenny Arsenault) the classifier’s choice from Post 2 for trainer Neal Moase and owner Jonah Moase. Other likely favourites in the eight-horse event are Bunny Mach (Hughes) and JK Special (Cheverie).
The $1,800 open trot will put their noses on the gate in Race 5. Abundaspin (Harold Shepherd) is looking to keep his undefeated streak on the line from the outside Post 7. His main challenges look to come from Buckline Banbury (Corey MacPherson) and Caliban Hanover (Ron Gass).
Lobster Carnival racing continues event night at 7 p.m., culminating in Saturday’s $22,000 Governor’s Plate final, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge.
