Murphy, third stone Donna Arsenault, second stone Elspeth Carmody and lead Laurie Tirone counted four points with the hammer in the ninth end to break a 6-6 tie and go on to defeat the Northwest Territories’’ Ann McKellar-Gillis 10-6.
P.E.I., which plays New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon in tonight’s draw, is 1-6 while the Northwest Territories fell to 2-5.
In the other afternoon women’s action, British Columbia’s Karen Lepine handed Manitoba’s Lois Fowler her second loss of the round robin. The final score was 8-6 as Fowler fell into a second-place tie with Quebec’s Catherine Derick, who had the afternoon draw off.
Saskatchewan’s Cathy Inglis downed Northern Ontario’s Vicky Barrett 8-2 in the other women’s game.
Men
In afternoon men’s action, New Brunswick’s Wayne Tallon took over sole possession of first place.
Tallon trimmed the Northwest Territories’ Glen Hudy 9-3 to improve to 7-1 while Alberta’s Wade White handed Ontario’s Howard Rajala his second loss with an 8-6 decision.
Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary recorded a big 10-8 win over Newfoundland and Labrador’s Glenn Goss. The win moved O’Leary into a four-way tie for second place with P.E.I.’s Rod MacDonald, Ontario and Alberta.
