MacDonald and his rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex and Silver Fox scored a single point with last-rock advantage in the 10th end to edge Quebec’s Robert MacLean 5-4. Both teams went into the game at 4-2 (won-lost), and the win moves P.E.I. into sole possession of second place at 5-2.
It was P.E.I.’s lone game of the day. MacDonald, third stone John Likely, second stone Mark O’Rourke and lead Peter MacDonald play the Northwest Territories’ Glen Hudy and Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary on Thursday.
In other morning men’s games, British Columbia’s Craig Lepine doubled Manitoba’s Bob Sigurdson 8-4, and Northern Ontario’s Bruce Munro defeated Saskatchewan’s Gord Bell 12-4.
Women
On the women’s side, Nova Scotia’s Colleen Pinkney foursome from the Truro Curling Club continued to roll along with a 7-1 win over Newfoundland and Labrador’s Laura Phillips.
Pinkney, third stone Wendy Currie, second stone Shelley MacNutt and lead Susan Creelman improved to 7-0 (won-lost) while Phillips fell to 3-4.
Quebec’s Catherine Derick got a big win over New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon in a battle of 4-2 teams. The final score was 11-5.
The other women’s game had Alberta’s Deb Santos downing Ontario’s Judy Oryniak 9-4.
P.E.I.’s Nola Murphy rink from the Silver Fox plays the Northwest Territories’ Ann McKellar-Gillis at 2:30 p.m., and New Brunswick at 7:30 p.m.
