Key game vs. Quebec on Wednesday morning

SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s Rod MacDonald rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club and host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club trimmed Saskatchewan’s Gord Bell 9-3 for a huge win at the 2013 Canadian senior curling championships on Tuesday afternoon.

MacDonald, third stone John Likely, second stone Mark O’Rourke and lead Peter MacDonald improved to 4-2 (won-lost), good enough for a third-place tie with Quebec’s Robert MacLean. Those two teams will meet in Wednesday’s 10 a.m. draw.

After Saskatchewan scored a deuce in the opening end, MacDonald answered back with a three-ender in the second and then stole one, two and three points, respectively, in the next three ends to go into the fifth-end break ahead 9-2.

In other afternoon games, Northern Ontario’s Bruce Munro defeated British Columbia’s Craig Lepine 9-3, and Quebec outlasted Manitoba’s Bob Sigurdson 7-5.
