In final series vs. Southside

TIGNISH – The Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces will open the best-of-seven Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League final series on home ice here at the Credit Union Arena on Friday night.

The Aces, who are appearing in their sixth straight league final and are the defending champions, will host the Crapaud-based Southside Lynx at 8 p.m.

Both teams are coming off strong performances in the semifinals. The Lynx swept the North River Flames in four straight games, and the Aces beat Belfast in five games.

Regular seasons

Both teams had different regular seasons as the Aces had a slow start, only to finish with a strong second half to pass the Lynx for first place on the final day of the regular season.

The Lynx stumbled down the stretch after sitting in first place for most of the season. But Southside is riding a four-game sweep, and this series could be a long one.

The Aces, who drew a crowd of over 450 fans to their last home game, are hoping for their biggest crowd of the season.

The Aces are coming off a high-scoring series, and rode the strong goaltending of Jake Hackett, who was named the league’s defensive player of the week. Riley Shea of the Aces was the league’s top offensive player last week.

Tignish forward Traven Gaudet is coming off a four-goal game, and leads the Aces with 12 points in the playoffs. Cameron MacMurdo leads the Lynx with 11 post-season points.
