ALBERTON -- Three teams were still in contention for the final women’s play-off spot at the end of round robin play in The Dominion P.E.I. Provincial Club Curling Championships being played at the Western Community Curling Club here.
Carol Kennedy, Charlottetown; Tracy Yorston-Campbell, Montague and Karen MacDonald, Silver Fox finished tied for the third playoff spot with 2-3 records. Western’s Sharon Horne rink and Cornwall’s Lorianne Davies finished round robin with 4-1 records. Davies placed second because of her round robin loss to Horne.
Yorston-Campbell and Kennedy met in the first playoff at 8 pm Saturday and the winner goes against MacDonald Sunday at 9:30 a.m.. The winner of the Sunday morning game goes against Davis in the 1:30 p.m. semi-final, and the winner of that game meets Horne in the 5:30 p.m. championship final.
The men’s playoff match-ups were determined with the conclusion of round-robin play. The defending champion Alan Inman rink from Crapaud went through round robin with a perfect 5-0 record, earning a ticket to Sunday’s 5:30 p.m. final against either the Blair Jay rink from the Silver Fox or the Paul Morrison Montague rink. Both rinks finished round-robin with 3-2 records. Jay started play with two wins but needed victory in the final round robin draw to qualify for the playoffs while Morrison started play with two losses before peeling off three consecutive wins.
The winners of Sunday`s finals will punch their ticket to The Dominion`s National Club Curling championship in Thunder Bay in November.
