ALBERTON -- All of the participating curling rinks are 1-1 (win-loss) after the opening draws of the 2013 The Dominion P.E.I. Club Curling championship, which got underway Thursday at Alberton’s Western Community Curling Club.
The Alberton, Montague and Cornwall women won their games in the first draw while the Silver Fox, Charlottetown and Crapaud men’s teams got their clubs back on even ground with wins in the Thursday night draw.
The winning men’s and women’s teams from Sunday’s championship games will advance to the 2013 The Dominion National Club Curling Championship in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Alan Inman’s defending champion men’s rink from Crapaud started off with a win.
Women’s scores
Lorianne Davies, Cornwall 7, Carol Kennedy, Charlottetown 4; Sharon Horne, Western 8, Karen MacDonald, Silver Fox 5 and Tracy Yorston-Campbell, Montague 8, Vanessa Hamming, Crapaud 6.
Men’s scores
Alan Brown, Charlottetown 10, Paul Neima, Cornwall 3; Alan Inman, Crapaud 10, Paul Morrison, Montague 5 and Blair Jay, Silver Fox 5, Mike Trudeau, Western 3.
There are women’s draws today at 9:30 and 2:30 and men’s draws at noon and 5:30.
Teams play a single round robin with the top three men’s teams and the top three women’s teams (after tie-breakers, if necessary) advancing to Sunday’s play-off round. The winning men’s and women’s teams will represent P.E.I. at the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay November 18 to 23.
