The Summerside native hit a game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds left to beat the Mount St. Vincent Mystics 58-57 in a semifinal game on Saturday night.

He followed it up by scoring 15 points and adding five rebounds in Sunday’s final, which was good enough for Hardy to be named player of the game as the Hurricanes defeated the St. Thomas Tommies 70-61 to capture the first ACAA basketball championship in school history.

Hardy was recognized as the school's male athlete of the week on Tuesday.

A graduate of Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside, Hardy is currently enrolled in the marketing and advertising management program at Holland College.

The Hurricanes will now represent the ACAA at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association men’s basketball championship in Montreal from March 14 to 16.

Female award

The female award went to Halifax native and team captain Steph Hiltz of the Holland College women’s basketball team.

Hiltz was named the player of the game in the Hurricanes’ 68-61 loss to the Mount Allison Mounties in the quarter-finals. She scored 13 points and collected eight rebounds while providing a strong presence at both ends of the floor.

Hiltz is a student in the sport and leisure management program, with a concentration on kinesiology.
