Malcolm, Wheatley spark Matrix

In opener of final series

KENSINGTON – Ethan Malcolm and Dylan Wheatley played key roles in helping the Mid-Isle Matrix get off to a winning start in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League championship series.

Malcolm recorded the shutout while Wheatley scored a pair of goals as the Matrix downed the Summerside Capitals 4-0 in the opener at Community Gardens on Saturday night.

Game 2 in the best-of-five series will be played at the Credit Union Place Ice Pad in Summerside on Tuesday at 6:50 p.m.

Daniel Collister and Spencer Beaton also scored for the Matrix, who received assists from Hikaru Kinowaki, Carson McManaman, Kyle McGuigan, Kurtis Green and Calen MacInnis.

The Matrix built period leads of 1-0 and 3-0.

A total of 10 minor penalties were called in the game – six of those against the Capitals.
