Complete four-game sweep of Flames

CORNWALL – The Southside Lynx is off to the championship series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League.

The Lynx won twice over the weekend – 6-3 in Game 3 on Friday night and 5-2 in Game 4 on Saturday evening – to sweep the North River Flames in the best-of-seven semifinal series. The Crapaud-based Lynx, who finished the regular season in second place, will face the winner of the Tignish-Belfast semifinal series.

At the APM Centre in Cornwall, the visiting Lynx scored three unanswered goals in the second period to turn a 2-1 lead after one period into a 5-1 cushion at the end of two.

Greg Beckingham (2-1), Morgan Watts (2) and Evan Harding scored for the Lynx. Marshall Thomas (2), Chad Murphy, Spencer Dougay and Rob Miller earned assists.

Bradley Vukicevic (1-1) and Justin Holroyd answered for the Flames.

Winning goaltender John Miller stopped 26 of 28 shots. Taylor Doyle gave up five goals on 34 shots for the Flames.

At the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud, the Lynx erupted for four second-period goals to turn a 2-1 deficit after 20 minutes into a 5-3 lead following two periods.

Miller (2-1), Dougay (1-1), Beckingham (1-1), Watts and Murphy provided all the offensive production for the Lynx.

Vukicevic, Brennan Dalziel and Cameron MacMurdo countered for the Flames.

Lynx goaltender Dylan Garnhum turned in a 34-save effort, and Doyle allowed six goals on 25 shots.
