Next two games at UPEI on Monday and Tuesday

FREDERICTON -- The UPEI Panthers are coming home with a split.

The men’s hockey team defeated the top-ranked University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 4-2 Friday in Fredericton to even their best-of-five Atlantic University Sport semifinal 1-1.

Game 3 goes Monday, with Game 4 Tuesday. Both games will start at 7 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena.

Cole MacMillan scored the winner 6:49 into the second period on the power play.

Matthew Maione and Mike MacIsaac of O'Leary also scored with the man advantage while Jordan Knox of Skinners Pond added a short-handed marker.

Harrison McIver of Newton, Reggie Traccitto, Chris DeSousa, Travis McIsaac, Knox and Maione had assists.

Colby Pridham of Montrose and Cam Critchlow, who played some of his minor hockey in Summerside, replied for the Varsity Reds.

Mavric Parks made 18 saves for the win while Daniel Lacosta stopped 26 in the loss.

UPEI was 3-for-8 on the power play and UNB was 0-for-3 and gave up a short-handed goal.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first and UPEI led 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.
