Matrix takes series lead

KENSINGTON – The Mid-Isle Matrix have moved to within one win of the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League semifinals.

The Matrix defeated the Kings County Kings 4-1 in an early evening contest on Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five quarter-final series. Game 4 is in Souris on Monday at 8 p.m.

At Community Gardens, Brennan Jarvis, Matt Dickieson, Liam O’Connor and Ryan Murray scored for the Matrix, who received single helpers from Jacob Stewart, Spencer McAllister, Easton Smith and Brandon Bond.

Tyler Rose, assisted by Pierce Conohan and Keirsten Steele, netted the lone Kings County goal.

The teams were scoreless after the opening 20 minutes, and the Matrix took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.

Alex Smith earned the goaltending victory over Nolan Compton.
