Gaudet and Newson advance in PEI Tankard

CRAPAUD – Defending champion Mike Gaudet and his rink broke a six-all tie with deuces in the last two ends to beat the Rod MacDonald foursome 10-6 in the P.E.I. Tankard provincial men's curling championship.

Meanwhile Jamie Newson scored a deuce in the final end to get by Blair Weeks with a 9-8 score Sunday and grabbed the final two qualifying slots for the championship round.

Gaudet and Newson now play in the Page 3-4 game at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the semifinal at 11 a.m. today.

Also at 4 p.m., the first two qualifiers, Eddie MacKenzie and Rod MacDonald, will face off in the Page 1-2 game, with the winner advancing to the 4 p.m. game.

The winning team from this year’s Tankard will advance to the Tim Horton’s Brier that goes from March 2 to 10 in Edmonton, Alta.
