For Islander Day game

I'm not sure, but Downward Dog may be my breaking point.

Actually, I am completely sure that it will be.

The Summerside Storm has announced a huge 'Pilates Party' for their annual Islander Day (February 18) extravaganza, and they are hoping to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Pilates class in history, before the matinee game against the Saint John Mill Rats.

So what's the Guinness record for a Pilates class?

After exhaustive research, which involved a great deal of investigation into pints of Guinness among other scientific inquiries, I can report that on May 9, 2011, a grand total of 862 intrepid souls stretched, clenched, held and relaxed all together in Madrid, Spain, to set the mark.

Is that all?

Just 892?

Storm fans should be able to smash that record all to smithereens.

Just to make sure, the accountants at MRSB have been engaged to count people who are participating, giving the firm a whole new area of expertise to develop.

The Storm assures me that everyone is invited to participate, and that you don't: (A) have to be skinny, (B) have to have expensive official Pilates clothes – although they do recommend wearing clothes, in a general sense, (C) have any idea what you're doing, or (D) have ever heard of any Pilates, including Pontius.

It's all in support of a total fitness package for Islander Day, as part of which a family of four can purchase a bracelet for each member at Credit Union Place that provides free skating, free bowling, free swimming and four free seats at the Storm game for a grand total of $30.

Sounds like it would be worth renting a couple of kids for the day just to get in on the deal.

Coming up before this grand event is the Storm's next home game, which is on Valentine's Day next week, which they have dubbed "Cure on the Court Day."

Money will be raised for breast cancer research through the sale of roses for your guy or girl and other fundraisers, one of which I certainly hope is a Valentines kissing booth.

And in related news, apparently the Storm plays basketball, also. They are on the road in Ontario on Sunday against the powerful Lightning as they start a meat-grinder slate of games to finish the schedule.

The Storm (18-11) has just 11 games left, with the final eight all against the league's best teams – London (27-4), Oshawa (17-11), Halifax (15-15) and Saint John (15-15).

At least the last four are all at home, and those will certainly be intense, meaningful contests.

Kudos to Joe Salerno for being named the league's coach of the month for January. The team was 6-2 over the month, firing regularly on all cylinders.

As an example of Salerno's success this year, the Storm has played on back-to-back nights five times so far this season, and the Storm's record in the second games is 4-1.

That's coaching, boys and girls.
