The National Hockey League team announced the signing on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Gallant, is in the midst of his fourth professional season, and third year with the Islanders’ American Hockey League affiliate, Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He has appeared in 37 games with the Sound Tigers this season, registering 174 penalty minutes – good enough for third in the AHL.
Gallant captained the 2008-09 Summerside Western Capitals, who won the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) regular-season and playoff championships, and the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian junior A hockey championship.
