The Dieppe Commandos’ 4-3 win over the Woodstock Slammers on Sunday afternoon guaranteed the Caps will enter the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) playoffs no worse than the No. 2 overall seed.
The Caps currently sit atop the 11-team league’s overall standings at 35-7-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). The Caps’ 72-point total is 10 more than the Eastlink Division-leading Yarmouth Mariners (30-8-1-1). The Mariners visit the Caps at Eastlink Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Capitals have eight games remaining in the 52-regular-season while the Mariners have 12 left.
The Slammers’ loss dropped their record to 24-15-2-1. Woodstock, which has 10 games remaining, has 51 points and can finish with no more than 71.
