At Crapaud Community Curling Club

CRAPAUD – The draw is set for the P.E.I. Tankard provincial men’s curling championship, which gets underway at the Crapaud Community Curling Club on Wednesday, Feb. 6, and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 10.

The 10 teams registered will play a triple-knockout format, qualifying four teams for the Page playoff round. The first and second qualifiers will play in the Page 1-2 game, and the third- and fourth-place qualifiers will play in the Page 3-4.

The winner of the 1-2 game will advance directly to the championship final, and the loser will play the winner of the 3-4 sudden-death game in the semifinal. That winner will then face the 1-2 winner in the final.

Four teams, including the defending-champion Mike Gaudet rink, are seeded in the draw as a result of cashspiel winnings this season. The seeds are: 1. Rodd MacDonald, 2 . Eddie MacKenzie, 3. Jamie Newson, 4. Gaudet.

Rinks skipped by Mel Bernard, Robert Campbell, Allan Inman, Ted MacFadyen, Robert Shaw and Blair Weeks round out the remaining six teams.

Draws go Wednesday through Friday at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m., with the final two qualifiers being chosen Saturday at 11 a.m. The two Page games follow at 4 p.m. The semifinal is Sunday at 11 a.m., with the final at 4 p.m.

A small admission fee will be charged for each draw, and full-event passes are also available.

The winning team from this year’s Tankard will advance to the Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton from March 2 to 10.
