The visiting Aces, behind Jake Hackett’s 40-save shutout and Slade Handrahan’s five-point performance, blanked the Southside Lynx 7-0 in a head-to-head matchup between the league’s top two teams that decided first place and home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
Tignish won 12 of its last 14 games to catch the Lynx.
Both teams completed the regular season with identical 20-6-2 (won-lost-overtime losses), but the Aces were awarded first place based on a better head-to-head record against the Lynx. Each team recorded three wins, but the Aces picked up an extra point with an overtime loss.
In the only other league game on the final night of the regular season, the Belfast Sabres downed the Tyne Valley Clover Farmers 9-3.
The playoffs start Friday night.
