The Woodstock Slammers posted a 4-1 home-ice victory that featured two empty-net goals in the final minute of the third period. Ironically, Woodstock was the last team to defeat the Capitals back on Dec. 7.

At the Carleton Civic Centre, the teams played a scoreless first period, and the Slammers’ Jake Wright scored the only goal of the second period at the 4:10 mark.

Steve Gillard’s power-play goal 3:26 into the third period made it 2-0, but Chris Caissy got the Capitals on the board at 9:52 to make it a one-goal game. The score remained 2-1 until the final minute of regulation time, when the Slammers’ Carlos Amestoy (19:04) and Brett MacLean (19:20) scored back-to-back goals into an empty net to seal the win.

Amestoy and Wright each added two assists to finish the night with three points while Robbie DeFulvils (2) and Andrew Schriver added other assists for the Slammers, who improved to 24-14-2-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).

JP Harvey and Danny Chiasson assisted for the Caps (34-7-2-0).

The Slammers outshot the Caps 39-26, including a 32-15 advantage through the first two periods. Simon-Pier Chamberland earned the goaltending win while Kevin Bailie turned in a solid 37-save effort for the Caps.

The Slammers went 1-for-7 on the power play, and the Caps were 0-for-4.

The game’s three stars were:

1. Carlos Amestoy (Slammers), 2. Simon-Pier Chamberland (Slammers), 3. Bradley MacDonald (Slammers).

The Caps are back in action on Saturday night against the Dieppe Commandos. Game time at Eastlink Arena is 7 p.m.
